If it's Memorial Day weekend, it must be time for preschool picnics on the Capitol grounds. This afternoon Tillie and I met up with Scout and her classmates for a little bit of picnicking and a lot of running around and rolling down hills.

summer hair
Exactly one month from tomorrow we will be departing the land of 100+ degree afternoons for the cool--by Austin standards, anyway--Wisconsin summer days. We're driving this year, so that 20-hour trip should provide plenty of fodder for the blog. And remember: we have to drive back home. In the meantime, we're getting ourselves psyched up with new summer haircuts and popsicles. Woo-hoo!

secret garden
Last week when Scout came home in her technicolor tie-dye courtesy of Explore Arts, she and Tillie explored the "garden" along the side of our house. They found wildflowers and ladybugs; they embarked on a journey through the dense forest and hid from monsters. It was a pretty intense adventure.

color run
To celebrate its last day of school, Scout's explore arts preschool class went on a color run this morning. A color run is pretty much what you would imagine it to be--the kids wear white t-shirts and run around while the teachers squirt their torsos with fabric dye. At least that's how Scout described it to me. I'm not sure what kind of safety gear--goggles, shower caps anyone?--was involved in this activity, but the teachers must be decent shots since there was little dye splattered above the neck (not counting the purple splashes on Scout's cheeks and red smear down her chin). If we get really bored this summer I'm thinking I might re-create this little exercise in our backyard. Tie-dye: Austin preschool style.

this little piggy
I've been obsessed with Harry Allen's bank in the form of a pig for quite sometime. I recently did a little spring cleaning off my rolling rack, which means I sold a bunch of clothes on eBay that I don't wear, so I used my profits to purchase this bright, shiny object. The little guy can hold up to $10,000 in dollar bills, so I told the kids to feel free to drop in some cash any time they feel I'm deserving of a bonus. It turns out that making smoothies every afternoon last week was bonus-worthy because Catcher recognized my blending skills with $1 in the bank. To be clear, it wasn't a dollar from his own allowance--he sought out the money man (Alex) to fund it. Either way I was psyched to be recognized for my smoothie skills, and I only have $9,999 to go until the pig is full.
