date night in

When I cook for Alex, I should really put the word cook in quotation marks. So let's start again. When I "cook" for Alex, the process involves dumping something frozen into a skillet while sipping a glass of wine and occasionally stirring the aforementioned frozen something (as per the instructions on the frozen something's bag).

When Alex cooks for me, however, it's a much grander affair. Below are snapshots from our fish taco Cinco de Mayo dinner the other night. I can't really comment on the pictures because I'm not sure what was being made when and where, but the end result was delicious. And I'm not just saying that because it took two hours and I had three margaritas in the process.

little lady laughs

Here's a look at some of the best laughs I got from the girls last week...and one shot of Scout that made me laugh (I honestly found her lying in bed with her sunglasses on--that picture was not posed).

take me out to the ball game

Through a strange twist of weather fate (rain in Atlanta) Alex came home from work two days early, which meant he arrived last night...on the weekend. In addition to spending a Saturday night drinking wine on the front porch with my husband, Alex's unexpected appearance also meant that I would have a partner in crime to help me survive Sunday.

Thanks to an unprecedented cold snap in early May, the weather could only be described as perfect today--high 70s, sunny, light breeze, no humidity. It was the perfect day to enjoy a ball game, so we made the 30-minute drive up north to see our local minor league team in action--the Round Rock Express. Keeping track of a four, two and one year-old at the ballpark meant there wasn't a lot of actual game watching going on, but the trip ate up the entire afternoon (which almost made it worth it when we found ourselves back at the house at 4:30 with three crying children...haha).

it's the look of the day

You're only young (or, more specifically, two) once. Enjoy it while you can.

dress-up friday

At some point this afternoon Catcher ventured into the costume/dress-up box in his closet and came out dressed as a pirate. This was after he had walked into the living room with his doctor kit and performed a check-up on me. I missed the diagnosis, but he prescribed a three-hour nap (I wish...haha!).

During clean-up time before dinner, Scout got in on the costume action:

*Despite evidence to the contrary, Scout does wear clothing while in the house. She took her shirt off before dinner because we were having pizza and she didn't want to get sauce, which she calls salt, on it. True story.

Tillie also found something for herself in the dress-up archives:

still waiting for summer

I'm pretty sure that this time last year we were playing in the (outdoor) pool. In fact, I'm sure this time last year we were in the pool because I have evidence here. I know I'm going to forget all this when we're on day 100 of 100+ degrees this summer, but today was FREEZING. Seriously. It's 50 degrees right now, and there's supposed to be a record low of 42 tonight. It hasn't been that cold since December. I think.

However, this weather hasn't stopped us from remembering that summer is right around the corner--and technically should have been here by now--so yesterday was the first day of swim lessons at the Y. I made Catcher and Scout pose for pictures in their swim gear. I'm that annoying mom. Despite the look on Scout's face, she couldn't have been more excited to jump in the pool. I predict I'm going to have to stand in the pool and catch her at least 1,000 times this summer. All she wants to do is jump.

the one and only ivan

The other day Catcher came home from school and told me he would like to start a journal. Funny because I had just read something recently about keeping a reading journal with your preschooler, so I knew what to do (or at least had an idea of what to do).

Today I bought him the book The One and Only Ivan and a blank journal. I've never read the book myself, but it was recommended and has won an award or something. It's about a gorilla who lives in a mall...sounds promising.

When I asked Catcher what he wanted to call the journal, he said "How about 'Lots of Words Journal'?" Sounds promising.
