rocking the chair

We took the teepee down in Catcher's room this afternoon. He was wondering why we never put it in its bag. After explaining that to put it in the bag we would have to take it down, he decided that was a good idea. Taking the teepee down created the perfect corner for his Eames rocking chair. Tillie saw an opportunity to crawl up and give us her best shaky-leg dance moves, so that's what she did.

what i'm reading

Two things I love: the television series Felicity (have I said that before?) and Jesse Eisenberg playing Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network (*note: that's Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, not the actual Mark Zuckerberg--just so we're clear on that). So when I read a review of Penelope on Daily Candy, which started like this: "If Aaron Sorkin's version of Mark Zuckerberg had a daughter with Felicity, she'd be the neurotic and meandering Harvard freshman Penelope," then I knew it was the book for me. Two days and halfway through the book, I'm a fan. It's funny. In a cleverly, witty haha kind of way.

walk on the wild side

Tillie is two weeks shy of 15 months, and while she is still timid about taking her first steps alone, she has finally warmed up to the idea of letting her siblings "guide" her around the house. (I put guide in quotations because when the guiding started it was more like dragging).

Yesterday, while Catcher rested in bed after his doctor's appointment, Scout took Tillie for a stroll in our neighbor's driveway/rock yard. Her confidence is growing--we're starting to place bets on when Tillie will (finally) walk on her own.

catcher's sick day

We went to the Whole Foods while waiting for the results of Catcher's strep test this afternoon. I didn't need a lab to tell me it was positive. When I offered him ice cream ("Don't tell the girls!") and he declined, I knew it was serious. Not serious like he's seriously ill, but serious like okay...he's sick.

Thirty minutes and several laps around the Whole Foods later, we had a call from the nurse saying Catcher's prescription was waiting for him at the CVS. As mothers there is a lot we don't know, but we do know when our little ones aren't acting like themselves. However, I did manage to get a little smile out of him while we were hanging out together this afternoon:

These are some practice shots I took over the past week while playing with ISO, aperture and shutter speed. That's boring photography-speak for trying to create an interesting image. It's a learning process.

what day it is?

Is it just me, or has it been a really looooooooong week? On Tuesday I thought it was Thursday, and since then I've thought every day was Friday. To combat the kid crazies, Alex and I took them out for frozen yogurt the other day when it was 90 degrees and Catcher was pitching the idea of it being a perfect day for ice cream. Of course the late afternoon sugar rush only made them that much more insane, but I got to play around with some new photo techniques (the blur in the bottom left-hand corner of the picture with Catcher is my thumb, by the way).

chalk it up

This morning after dropping Catcher off at school I had a plan for the girls: the library! The public library is one of our hot spots because everyone gets to bring new books home to read ad nauseam (at least for the parents) for three weeks. Today we got to the library before it opened, so I thought we would drive around the block for 15 minutes until the doors were unlocked, but Scout had a different idea. She decided she wanted to go home because she wanted a snack. Tillie had woken her up early this morning, so she was a little on the grumpy side. I thought the library would be fun, but why punish myself with a cranky toddler? So we came home and had a snack and then went outside for a little sidewalk chalk adventure. Sidewalk chalk is probably more fun than the library anyway--especially when you eat the blue one like Tillie did.
